With the Memorial Day holiday taking place last week, now’s the perfect time to lock in a mid to late summer allied or travel nurse assignment. If you haven’t locked in your summer travel plans, check in with your Triage recruiter to see what’s out there. While actual locations can vary by specialty, here are some of our favorite places to take summer allied or travel nurse jobs.
Arizona
When you think summer, you may not automatically think Arizona. But even though the average high summer temperatures in Arizona can range from 90-120, it means that there are fewer people crowding local attractions. Housing can also be less expensive since you’re competing with fewer people.
Nine medical facilities in Arizona made the U.S. News and World Report’s list of the best hospitals in the country. There are currently nearly 300 open healthcare travel jobs on the Triage job board in Arizona and many Triage travelers have reported a great experience on assignment in Arizona.
If you’re looking for things to do, check out the Canyon Lake and the Tonto National Forest. At Canyon Lake, you can rent pontoon boats, canoes, kayaks and water skis. If you’re a avid fisher, you can go after rainbow trout, bluegill, channel catfish, bass, walleye and crappie. The marina even rents fishing gear, so you don’t have to worry about hauling in your own if you left if at home during your travel nurse assignment in Arizona. No trip to Arizona is complete without a trip to the Grand Canyon. Although summers can be too hot to hike in the Grand Canyon (especially if you’re not an expert hiker or used to the heat), head to the Canyon’s North Rim. It’s only open during the spring and summer, but it is over 1000 feet higher than the South Rim. If you’re not used to elevation, know that it could be difficult, even with the cooler temps brought on by the elevation.
Are sports your thing? Take in a baseball game at Chase Field. The Arizona Diamondbacks play in downtown Phoenix.
Wisconsin
If heat isn’t your thing, summers in Wisconsin can be quite nice. The northern part of the country is only above 90 a few days a summer and about two weeks in the southern part of the state. It can be humid though, which can mean stepping outside is muggy.
Eight Wisconsin medical facilities meet the U.S. News standards and there are over 100 different jobs currently open on the Triage job board. They’re located throughout the state in Milwaukee, Kenosha, Madison and Eau Claire.
If you’re looking for nature, Wisconsin is your place. The state is full of lakes with plenty beaches and gorgeous waterfalls. Look for Manitou Falls, located in Pattison State Park on the Black River. The waterfall is 165 feet tall and there’s a four mile hike through the forest. Another state park worth a visit is Rock Island State Park. The park is actually an island so you’ll have to take a ferry to get there.
If you take a summer assignment, you won’t get to see a Packers game, but you can take a tour of Lambeau Field. It’s one of the NFL’s largest facilities and tour goers can see nearly every part of the stadium including the locker rooms and press box.
North Carolina
July is typically the warmest month in North Carolina, with average high temperatures hovering around 90. The weather can be humid too, especially since its not far from the ocean.
Eighteen medical facilities in North Carolina meet the high standards of U.S. News and hospitals in Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and Raleigh-Durham all have some of the best facilities in the state. Triage has nearly 300 separate allied and travel nurse jobs available in Raleigh, Wilmington, Green Point, Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
While in North Carolina, you must not miss the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s the most visited national park in the entire country and covers over 500,000 acres in both North Carolina and Tennessee. Visitors can hike, go horseback riding, fishing, biking or camping in the park.
If one of these locations piques your interest this summer, give your Triage recruiter a call and ask about allied or travel nurse jobs in Arizona, Wisconsin or North Carolina.
