Getting started in healthcare travel

At Triage, we do our best to help make the time you spend on the road worth it. If you’ve never traveled with us—or at all, you may be wondering exactly how it all works.

Alana B., Triage Traveler

It begins with you

And what you want out of your career and the traveling lifestyle. Some want the chance to make more money as a traveler, see new locations, gain experience working in different facilities, with different equipment, or the opportunity to put miles between you and that ex—hey, we’re not here to judge. It’s the starting point for what comes next.

Experience

It’s important to note that most traveling nurses and medical professionals will need at least two years of experience before beginning to travel. The exceptions to that rule are rehab therapy professionals. Many rehab travel therapists can usually start their life on the road as soon as they pass their boards.

Find your recruiter

Since you’re already here, we’re feeling confident that your allied or travel nurse recruiter might be one of us. But do your research. Check out a few options, ask around or read reviews from current and former travelers. We make it really easy to find ours:

Healthcare Travel: How it Works

In it for the money? We get it.

Whether it is paying off student debt, seeing the country sea to shining sea, or paying for a family, we’re under no illusions about money’s role in your decision to travel. Read on for more about how you get paid, some expenses we’ll help you manage, and how our benefits package works.

Pay

Turn in your timecard on time and you get paid weekly. How much you’ll get paid varies assignment-to-assignment. We strive to be as transparent as possible about this part and we’ve got an app to simplify the process.

Housing

Housing is a major part of maximizing your earnings. You determine how this component of your package is built—we can find your housing for you, or simply provide you a tax- free stipend and you do the legwork. It’s your call.

Benefits

Triage offers all benefits you’d expect from a permanent position: medical, dental, vision and day-one 401(k). We even offer pet insurance to keep your travel buddy healthy. We’re always exploring new and interesting ways to make working at Triage your best bet. Suggestions welcome.
