Occupational Therapy Assistant

Occupational therapy assistants help patients improve, develop and maintain the skills needed to live. As an OTA, you might help patients recover after an injury, manage a chronic illness or live with a disability. You’ll work directly with a registered occupational therapist to develop and implement treatment plans for patients. Occupational Therapist

Occupational therapists work directly with patients and develop treatment plans to improve, rehabilitate or maintain a patient’s motor skills and ability to perform everyday tasks. As an OT, you’ll help patients live more independently and improve quality of life and your patients may be people with disabilities or those who are recovering from illness or injuries. You’ll also create individual plans and then work with the patient and family members to help them improve independence.

Physical Therapist

Physical therapists help patients regain their range of motion, manage pain and improve quality of life with hands-on, personalized treatments. As a PT, you’ll work directly with patients in a clinical setting, as well as teach patients and families about in-home treatments and exercises that can be done between sessions. PTs tend to spend more time one-on-one with patients so it’s important that you have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with patients.

Physical Therapist Assistant

Physical therapy assistants work directly under physical therapists to help follow treatment plans created by their collaborating PT. As a PTA, you’ll work with patients and help with exercises, massage, gait and balance training, as well as other therapeutic interventions. Like PTs, you’ll spend a lot of time one-on-one with patients, so you’ll need to be able to motivate your patients and their families with compassionate care.

Speech Therapist/SLP

Speech language pathologists, also sometimes called speech therapists, work with the full range of communication and swallowing disorders. As an SLP, you’ll work with patients to prevent, assess, diagnose and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults. Like other types of rehab therapy professionals, you’ll work closely with patients and caregivers to provide training and education.
